Sewing In The Atrium Series

 

Our all day serger class, that was held in the Atrium last spring, was a huge success!  It went so well that we have decided to offer a variety of all-day sewing classes throughout the year.  We are calling this series Sewing In The Atrium…or Quilting in the Atrium …(you get the idea!)

Sewing In the Atrium:  Harper Holdall Bag

Bring your sewing machine and a sewing friend and spend the day sewing the Harper Holdall Bag. It is the perfect zip top tote to hold all you need for crafts, a day on the go, a quick getaway and more. This is a really fun bag to make and at the end of the day, you will walk away with a fabulous and extremely useful bag. This class is for confident beginners and up.  Class fee includes pattern and a yummy box lunch.

Embroidering  In the Atrium:  Embroidered Up-Cycled Denim Notepad Cover

Come Embroider in the Atrium! In this class you will up-cycle old denim jeans and make a notepad cover. You will embroider a colorful dragonfly on denim, then piece together to make the cover.  These notebook covers would make a great gift for anyone!  You need to be comfortable with your embroidery machine for this class.   Class fee includes embroidery design, pattern & fabric for the notebook, and a yummy box lunch!

Free Motion 101

Come and learn the basics of free motion quilting! Diane will touch on all of the important elements- needles, thread, quilting feet and much more. You will practice on sample fabric and batting squares. With practice, and the
basics you learn from this class, your free-motion quilting possibilities are endless.

Beginning Ruler Work : Straight Edges

Combine free-motion stitching with rulers and get a beautiful style of quilting with shaped patterns. In this class you will use a straight ruler that will allow you to form precise straight edged patterns. Diane will teach you the
basics of quilting with rulers in this hands-on class. You will work on sample quilt squares as you learn this fun technique. Knowledge of free motion quilting highly recommended.

Beginning Quilting:  Charm Box Quilt   

Come and learn the basics of making a quilt!  Heather will teach you basic cutting and piecing techniques in this 2 session class.  This quilt features 2 charm packs and a solid background fabric.  This pattern is perfect for the beginning quilter!  Class fee includes the pattern. You need to be comfortable threading and operating your sewing machine in this class.

Machine Hoop Embroidery

Twilight Boo-levard Machine Embroidered Bench Pillow

Stroll along our Twilight Boo-levard to visit all of your favorite “haunts!” This machine embroidered bench pillow is one of our favorite Halloween projects. Let Robin help you get over your fright of embroidering on glitter vinyl and mylar when you take this 2 part class. A minimum 5″ x 7″ embroidery field needed for this bewitching project.

Class fee includes:  embroidery design collection, embellishment kit, fabric kit with 5 spools of matching Isacord thread and pillow form.  (A wicked good deal)

Embroidery 101: Embroidered Tea Towel

If you are new to machine embroidery this class is for you!  You will learn about different stabilizers & needles, how to download a design and transfer to your machine.  You will learn how to hoop and embroider a cotton tea towel. Class fee includes a stabilizer guide with samples and tea towel.

Machine Embroidery:  Applique Greeting Cards

These beautiful Tapestry Zipper Bags are a stylish way to keep track of all the little items you carry around each day.  The stitching on the bags looks as if they were embroidered by hand. Brand New to Sewing:  Sewing Machine Instruction for Adults (or Kids)

If you have never sewn, or it’s been a very long time and you don’t feel confident about how to use your sewing machine than this one-on-one class is for you!  This is a one-hour class where you learn how to thread your machine and wind a bobbin. You will also learn the basics of adjusting your stitch length & width and how to sew a basic seam.

Beginning Sewing/Quilting:  Zip and Dash Bag

The Zip and Dash Bag is perfect for the beginning sewer/quilter.  In this class you will learn how to quilt your batting & material, sew seams and put a zipper in! These adorable bags are made with two fat quarters, batting and zippers.  You will have two different sized bags finished at the end of class!  You must be comfortable threading and using your sewing machine.  A walking foot is also needed for class.

Pillow Cover with Invisible Zipper

Learn how to insert an invisible zipper when you make this pillow. All you need is an invisible zipper foot and you are all set. It’s easy and looks so clean and neat, you won’t want to use conventional zippers ever again! Class fee includes materials. Must be comfortable with operating your sewing machine.

 The London Shirt (Advanced Beginning Sewer)

The London Shirt will be a great addition to your wardrobe. Our sample is made up in a beautiful 100% linen fabric that is available from our shop!  This loose-fitting, easy to wear shirt features diagonal-to-the-front side seams, swing back, and stand up or fold down collar. You must be able to lay out your pattern and cut out your shirt pieces before coming to class.

A cross between a blazer and a cardigan, this chic, unlined jacket is semifitted, slightly cropped, and includes several unique features.  With no set in sleeves and no closures it is fun and easy to wear.  You must know how to lay out pattern and cut your jacket pieces before coming to class.

Serging Workshop & Classes

Serger Technique Workbook

This is a technique class where you complete a workbook with samples for your reference.  You will learn how to set up for different stitches using 3 and 4 threads, how to turn corners and much more!  You must be able to thread your serger.  Private lessons are available to learn how to thread your serger, please call the shop for more information.

Linen Pumpkins

These charming pumpkins are just in time for the fall! While it’s not orange and perfectly round, the natural-colored linen and tonal rolled hem stitching gives it a whimsical, but subtle look that is welcome in any room.  In class you will make 2 linen pumpkins, that are lightly stuffed and embellished with a fabric stem, leaves and moss.  This class is for those who are comfortable threading your serger, Class fee includes most materials.

Serged Swing Jacket 

This easy fitting casual jacket with a swing silhouette, can be made up in two different lengths. No closures and dolman sleeves make this jacket easy to construct.  The jacket and sleeve hems feature an exposed serged edge.  The shop sample is made up in a Ponte fabric which is perfect for this project. This class is for an advanced beginner, as your jacket will need to be cut out prior to class.  You will also need to be comfortable threading your serger.
