Machine Quilting Classes

Free Motion 101

Come and learn the basics of free motion quilting! Diane will touch on all of the important elements- needles, thread, quilting feet and much more. You will practice on sample fabric and batting squares. With practice, and the
basics you learn from this class, your free-motion quilting possibilities are endless.

Beginning Ruler Work : Straight Edges

Combine free-motion stitching with rulers and get a beautiful style of quilting with shaped patterns. In this class you will use a straight ruler that will allow you to form precise straight edged patterns. Diane will teach you the
basics of quilting with rulers in this hands-on class. You will work on sample quilt squares as you learn this fun technique. Knowledge of free motion quilting highly recommended.

Intermediate Free Motion:     Freehand  Fills

Now that you have mastered the basics of Free Motion Quilting, you can take it to the next level. Learn how to select and execute freehand fills that adds an extra dimension to your quilts.  This technique class is for those who are comfortable at free motion quilting.

Machine Embroidery 101

If you are new to machine embroidery, this class is for you.  Let Sue introduce you to all of the different types of stabilizers, needles and thread.  Learn how to properly hoop your projects and how to download and transfer designs.

Machine Embroidery:  Needle Keeper in-the-Hoop

This cute and clever Needle Keeper is made in the hoop of your embroidery machine!  Inside there are vinyl pages that are embroidered to hold 6 -12 packs of machine needles. You will learn about and use a wide variety of stabilizers while making this project.  Class fee includes embroidery design and vinyl.

Machine Embroidered Quilt Block of the Month Program: 

Stars In The Garden  Embroidered Machine Applique Quilt

This stunning quilt is made with a combination of machine embroidery applique and traditional pieced blocks.  If you love machine embroidery, you will want to make this quilt!   This is a 9 part block of the month program.  Each month a combination of embroidered and pieced blocks will be introduced in class. At each of the hands-on classes you will be given different embroidery designs and pieced block instructions for that particular month.

The first meeting is on February xx   at xx   .  This meeting is information only. We will go over the details of the block of the month program, dates, times and how it will work.  There is no charge for this first meeting.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the shop.

February is National Embroidery Month!  

Make-It-Take-It Embroidery Projects:  Gift Card Holder in the Hoop

Come celebrate National Embroidery Month with us!  Join us on Tuesday Feb 14th or Saturday February 25th and make an embroidered gift card holder that is made completely in the embroidery hoop. If you are interested in machine embroidery, this is your chance to try it and see how it all works!   There is no charge for this make-it-take-it project, we only ask that you call and let us know what day you will be coming.

Bernina Embroidery Workshop:  Medium Clamp Hoop

This workshop is your chance to use your new Medium Clamp Hoop. Upon sign up of class you will be given directions to make a small quilt top.  You will come to class with the completed quilt top, layered and ready to be quilted.  In the class you will use your Medium Clamp Hoop and embroidery unit to quilt the layers together.  The square shape perfectly accommodates square designs common for quilting.

Brand New to Sewing:  Sewing Machine Instruction for Adults (or Kids)

If you have never sewn, or it’s been a very long time and you don’t feel confident about how to use your sewing machine than this one-on-one class is for you!  This is a one-hour class where you learn how to thread your machine and wind a bobbin. You will also learn the basics of adjusting your stitch length & width and how to sew a basic seam.

Beginning Sewing:  Apron

This apron is a great project for the beginning (or rusty) sewer. You will learn how to cut out a pattern, sew facings, sew pockets and straps and finish edges with a rolled hem. This cross-back apron is easy to make and really comfortable to wear.  Class fee includes the pattern.  You will need to know how to thread and operate your machine in this class.

Beginning Sewing:   Pillow Cover with Envelope Closure

If you are comfortable sewing straight lines this class should be your next step. This pillow is really quick to make. It’s a perfect way to refresh your rooms in a hurry! This pillow is made with an envelope style back that allows you to insert a pillow form without putting in a zipper.  Class fee includes materials.

Confident Beginner Sewing:  Doggy Waste Bag Holder

This Doggy Waste Bag holder might be small but its packed with lots of different sewing techniques.  There is a small zipper on the back side, you will learn how to apply various sorts of hardware, make straps, and edgestitch!  Let Therese guide you through it all when you make this adorable Doggy Accessory.

Confident Beginner Sewing:  Pillow Cover with Invisible Zipper

Learn how to insert an invisible zipper when you make this pillow. All you need is an invisible zipper foot and you are all set. It’s easy and looks so clean and neat, you won’t want to use conventional zippers ever again! Class fee includes materials.

 The London Shirt (Advanced Beginning Sewer)

The London Shirt will be a great addition to your wardrobe. Our sample is made up in a beautiful 100% linen fabric that is available from our shop!  This loose-fitting, easy to wear shirt features diagonal-to-the-front side seams, swing back, and stand up or fold down collar. You must have basic sewing skills to
take this class.

 The Cottage Shirt  (Intermediate Sewer)

Perfect for the warmer weather! We thought this might be a nice follow up to the London Shirt. This loose-fitting camp shirt with a modern twist has tailored collar and stand, back yoke, armhole bands and exaggerated hems with side vents. Six-button closure. Our sample is made up in a lovely white cotton/linen fabric which is available to purchase at the shop.
