Sewing In The Atrium 

 

Our all day serger class, that was held in the Atrium last spring, was a huge success!  It went so well that we have decided to offer a variety of all-day sewing classes throughout the year.  We are calling this series Sewing In The Atrium…or Quilting in the Atrium …(you get the idea!)

Sewing In the Atrium:  Harper Holdall Bag

Bring your sewing machine and a sewing friend and spend the day sewing the Harper Holdall Bag. It is the perfect zip top tote to hold all you need for crafts, a day on the go, a quick getaway and more. This is a really fun bag to make and at the end of the day, you will walk away with a fabulous and extremely useful bag. This class is for confident beginners and up.  Class fee includes pattern and a yummy box lunch.

Free Motion 101

Come and learn the basics of free motion quilting! Diane will touch on all of the important elements- needles, thread, quilting feet and much more. You will practice on sample fabric and batting squares. With practice, and the
basics you learn from this class, your free-motion quilting possibilities are endless.

Beginning Sewing/Quilting:  Zip and Dash Bag

The Zip and Dash Bag is perfect for the beginning sewer/quilter.  In this class you will learn how to quilt your batting & material, sew seams and put a zipper in! These adorable bags are made with two fat quarters, batting and zippers.  You will have two different sized bags finished at the end of class!  You must be comfortable threading and using your sewing machine.  A walking foot is also needed for class.

Beginning Ruler Work : Straight Edges

Combine free-motion stitching with rulers and get a beautiful style of quilting with shaped patterns. In this class you will use a straight ruler that will allow you to form precise straight edged patterns. Diane will teach you the
basics of quilting with rulers in this hands-on class. You will work on sample quilt squares as you learn this fun technique. Knowledge of free motion quilting highly recommended.

Intermediate Free Motion Quilting:    Freehand Border Fills

Now that you have mastered the basics of Free Motion Quilting, you can take it to the next level. Learn how to select freehand fills that are suitable to stitch in your quilt’s sashing or borders.  This technique class is for those who are comfortable at free motion quilting.

Beginning Quilting:  Charm Box Quilt   

Come and learn the basics of making a quilt!  Heather will teach you basic cutting and piecing techniques in this 2 session class.  This quilt features 2 charm packs and a solid background fabric.  This pattern is perfect for the beginning quilter!  You need to be comfortable threading and operating your sewing machine in this class.

Machine Hoop Embroidery

Embroidery 101: Embroidered Tea Towel

If you are new to machine embroidery this class is for you!  You will learn about different stabilizers & needles, how to download a design and transfer to your machine.  You will learn how to hoop and embroider a cotton tea towel. Class fee includes a stabilizer guide with samples and tea towel.

Machine Embroidery:  Applique Greeting Cards

Embroider unique, personalized cards with these Applique Greeting Cards. What a great way to put your embroidery machine to work!  You will embroidery 2 cards in this class.  Class fee includes embroidery designs, card & envelope blanks and stabilizers.  Minimum hoop size is 5″ x 7″.

Machine Embroidery:  Modern Petals Tiling Scene

 A fresh twist on the traditional tiling scene! The Modern Petals Tiling Scene embroidery collection is made up of “building blocks” of flower quarters. Unlike a traditional tiling scene- these designs are not densely stitched so it doesn’t take a lot of time to embroider, and it is easy to put together.  This is a great fabric stash buster and because the blocks can be arranged in any combination of patterns, you can make a wall hanging, table runner or pillow- your choice!

Sewing & Serging:   Clothing & Home Dec

Brand New to Sewing:  Sewing Machine Instruction for Adults (or Kids)

If you have never sewn, or it’s been a very long time and you don’t feel confident about how to use your sewing machine than this one-on-one class is for you!  This is a one-hour class where you learn how to thread your machine and wind a bobbin. You will also learn the basics of adjusting your stitch length & width and how to sew a basic seam.

Beginning Sewing Series 

These 3 projects are perfect for the beginning sewer or the rusty sewer who wants to get back into sewing!   In each of the three classes you will learn many different techniques including how to cut out a pattern, sew and finish seams, sew patch pockets and insert a lining.  You must be comfortable threading and operating your machine.  If you don’t have a sewing machine,  please call the shop for information about using one of ours.

Pillow Cover with Invisible Zipper Class  

Learn how to insert an invisible zipper when you make this pillow. All you need is an invisible zipper foot and you are all set. It’s easy and looks so clean and neat, you won’t want to use conventional zippers ever again! Class fee includes materials. Must be comfortable with operating your sewing machine.

 The Sophia Swing Jacket (Advanced Beginning Sewer)

This easy to wear, unlined swing coat features raglan sleeves & back yoke for a sophisticated style. You can make it up in a ponte fabric or heavy cotton print of your choice.  We have several samples made up in different fabrics with slight variations. You must be able to lay out your pattern and cut your jacket pieces before coming to class.

Serger Technique Workbook

This is a technique class where you complete a workbook with samples for your reference.  You will learn how to set up for different stitches using 3 and 4 threads, how to turn corners and much more!  You must be able to thread your serger.  Private lessons are available to learn how to thread your serger, please call the shop for more information.

Get your serger out and make a fresh set of 4 napkins using the rolled hem. After you have finished your napkins, we will make an adorable jewelry pouch using the rolled hem stitch that goes together in a snap!

Serger Class:  Fall In Love Cardigan

This figure flattering cardigan is made in a medium weight knit. It is the perfect, quick-to-make garment on your serger.  The entire cardigan is made on the serger with the exception of the hem. A coverhem machine will be available for you to use in class to complete your garment. You need to be comfortable on your serger and able to cut out your pattern before coming to class.
