Quilting Classes

Harper HoldAll Bag

 It is the perfect zip top tote to hold all you need for crafts, a day on the go, a quick getaway and more.  Take a day off from the beach and have fun making the Harper HoldAll bag!  At the end of the day, you will walk away with a fabulous and extremely useful bag. This class is for confident beginners and up. Class fee includes pattern.

Free Motion Quilting 101

Come and learn the basics of free motion quilting! Diane will touch on all of the important elements- needles, thread, quilting feet and much more. You will practice on sample fabric and batting squares. With practice, and the
basics you learn from this class, your free-motion quilting possibilities are endless.

Beginning Ruler Work:  Straight Edges

Combine free-motion stitching with rulers and get a beautiful style of quilting with shaped patterns. In this class you will use a straight ruler that will allow you to form precise straight edged patterns. Diane will teach you the
basics of quilting with rulers in this hands-on class. You will work on sample quilt squares as you learn this fun technique. Knowledge of free motion quilting highly recommended.

Sewing and Serger Classes

Beginning Sewing

We are offering two separate classes that come from a really wonderful book, Everyday Patterns.  Andrea Besky, who teaches our garment classes, suggested that we use this book for our beginning sewing classes. The book, featuring 7 garments and 2 bags, includes instructions and patterns for all projects featured.  The styles are easy fitting with clean and simple lines.    This class is perfect for those who have never sewn and for those who want to brush up on their sewing skills.

*Please note* Prior to the sewing class dates listed below, you need to come into the shop to trace your pattern and cut your fabric.  When you sign up for class, we will set up a date and time for you to come in. All cutting and marking must be completed before coming to class.

Intermediate Sewing:  Riley Overalls

I just love these overalls!  The Riley is a classic overalls design with a relaxed fit.  The shop sample is made up in a heavier weight linen and are so easy and comfortable to wear.  This class is for the intermediate sewer, as you will be cutting out your project before coming to class.  The pattern is well written and a joy to work with. Class fee includes pattern.

Intermediate Sewing:  Pillow with invisible zipper and piping

Freshen up your home with new pillows!  In this class you will learn how to sew in an invisible zipper, make and insert piping into your pillow.  Class fee includes all materials needed to make a pillow.

Bernina/Bernette/Elna Sewing Machine Workshop: 

Wrapped Luggage Tag Using the Built-in Alphabet on your machine.

After going on vacation last month, it was a joy to be able to easily pick out my suitcase at the baggage claim because of my wrapped luggage tag on the handle.  On the inside of the tag we will stitch your contact information.   This project is such a great way to learn how to work with the built-in alphabet and memory function of your sewing machine. The pre-embroidered outside square “Mine” will be provided for you in class.  This workshop is free to the people who bought there sewing machine from Shoreline. (+$5.00 materials fee).

Serger Technique Workbook 

This is a technique class where you complete a workbook with samples for your reference.  You will learn how to set up for different stitches using 3 and 4 threads, how to turn corners and much more!  You must be able to thread your serger.  Private lessons are available to learn how to thread your serger, please call the shop for more information.

Serger Technique Workbook:  Part 2

Now that you are comfortable with your serger, we will work on the rolled hem  and the flatlock stitch;  changing needles, tensions and working with different types of thread. A small project will be made in class.

Serger/Coverhem Class:   Batik Cotton Jersey Knit Robe 

This knee length robe is constructed on your serger and finished off using a coverhem machine.  If you don’t have a coverhem machine, you can use one of ours in class.  The Kiko robe is made up in a beautiful, soft batik cotton jersey- perfect for summer mornings. The pattern comes from the Every Day Patterns book, which is required for class.  This class is for the advanced beginner sewer, as you will need to trace your pattern and cut your fabric out before coming to class.

Machine Embroidery Classes

Embroidery Workshop:      Love Blooms Tabletop Banner

Perfect class for the summer! This is a fun and easy embroidery in-the-hoop project is, ideal for new embroiderers as well as seasoned embroiderers. The banner is made completely in the hoop! Minimum hoop size is 6″ x 8″. Class fee includes embroidery design.

Edge-to-Edge Quilting on your Embroidery Machine

If you’ve ever wanted to make a quilt completely on your own, or see what else you can do with your embroidery machine, then you’ll love this technique class!  The Easy-Connect Quilting files and technique allow you to use your home embroidery machine to get quilting results like you’d see from a long-arm quilter. We suggest using a magnetic hoop to cut your time in half.  The Edge to Edge Book by Amelie Scott is needed for class.    Design sizes:  5.1” x 9.5”,  6.2” x 11.5”,  7.3” x 13.5”.

Embroidery Technique:  Tiling Scenes Flower Power Embroidered Blocks

 A fresh twist on the traditional tiling scene! In this class you will learn the technique of embroidering and joining “building blocks” of flower quarters. The 5” blocks can be arranged in any combination of patterns, utilizing a variety of fabrics. Be creative and dip into your fabric stash to build any size of tiling scene, or consider creating pillows, table runners, tote bags or coasters. The possibilities are endless!  Class fee includes embroidery design collection.
